When I first met Carol
J. McCune McCraw more
than 20 years ago at a
biennial reunion of the
U. S. McCraw Family
Association, she had
already retired from
her lengthy career as a
legal assistant in Yolo
County, California, and
was talking
enthusiastically about
publishing in 1998 the
third edition of "It is
McCraw, Not McGraw", an
exhaustive, extensive
genealogical history of
the William MacCraw
family in America that
was first published in
1982.
Carol's enthusiasm for
this project never
waned, and when DNA
evidence later confirmed
all the genealogical
conclusions reached by
the various authors of -
and contributors to -
this wonderful book, "It
is McCraw", she was
absolutely ecstatic.
Over the past 5 years or
so, more and more DNA
evidence and
analysis has further
corroborated these
conclusions, and our
family now has nearly
300 years of solid,
irrefutable proof of its
existence and
of multitudinous family
connections throughout
the United States.
We owe so much to Carol
McCraw for her many
years of hard work and
dedication to
identifying and
preserving our
family's proud and
rich history, and her
death will not be the
end of this project. On
many occasions over the
past two or three years,
Carol repeatedly
remarked on how
gratified, happy and
relieved she was that
the
McCraw family history
would live on due to the
continuing interest and
efforts of so many of
our family members.
We couldn't have done it
without you, Carol, and
you will be forever and
sorely missed.
